Most Belgians have the Bancontact app or a banking app on their phone. With Bancontact Pro they pay by scanning a QR code: no card terminal needed. ServePos can even confirm the payment by itself, so the volunteer does not have to check anything. Here is how to set it up.
Step 1: Bancontact Pro for your club
Bancontact Pro (formerly Payconiq) is the Bancontact service for businesses and associations. The money goes straight to the club's bank account. Does your club already accept Bancontact with a sticker at the bar? Then you already have an account and can use it in ServePos.
No account yet? Request Bancontact Pro through your bank or on the Bancontact website. Bancontact then sends you a QR sticker and gives you access to the Bancontact Pro portal.
Step 2: choose how you work
ServePos offers three ways. The first question in the app is How do you know it has been paid?
- QR code on the screen (the till gets a signal) — for every payment the till shows a new QR code with the amount already in it. The customer scans and confirms, and ServePos closes the tab by itself. No sticker needed. Our recommendation.
- Fixed QR code (sticker) (the till gets a signal) — the customer scans the sticker at the bar and immediately sees the amount the till has sent. ServePos confirms by itself. Handy if the customer cannot see the till screen.
- The volunteer checks — the customer scans the sticker, types the amount themselves and shows the confirmation on their phone. The volunteer then confirms in ServePos. No API token needed, and it also works when the till is offline.
💡 Several tills? Use one sticker per till. With a fixed sticker, the till sends the amount to that sticker. If two tills share one sticker and charge at the same time, neither the volunteer nor the customer knows which amount appears after scanning, and the customer might pay someone else's bill. So give each till its own sticker, or choose QR code on the screen: then every till simply shows its own code.
Step 3: find your details in the Bancontact Pro portal
For a till that confirms by itself, ServePos needs two things from the Bancontact Pro portal:
- The API token — log in to the Bancontact Pro portal and open Settings. You will find your API key there. It is a long code; copy it in full.
- The sticker number (product ID) — only if you work with a fixed sticker. In the portal, each sticker is a product on the Products page, with its own number.
Several tills? Create an extra sticker for each till yourself on the Products page of the portal. You do not have to wait for a sticker in the post: you print the QR code from ServePos (see step 4).
Working the manual way? Then you only need the payment link of your sticker (it starts with https://pay.bancontact.net/). That is the address behind the QR code: scan your sticker with your phone's camera to see it.
🔒 Keep the API token safe. Treat it like a password: whoever has it can look up and refund your club's payments.
Step 4: add Bancontact in ServePos
In ServePos, go to Configuration → Settings → Payment → + Add payment method → Bancontact / Payconiq.
- Under How do you know it has been paid? choose The till gets a signal or The volunteer checks.
- With a signal: choose QR code on the screen or Fixed QR code (sticker), paste the API token and, for a sticker, fill in Your sticker number (product ID). ServePos checks with Bancontact that everything is correct.
- Manual: paste the Payment link of your sticker.
- If you like, give the payment method a name of your own and confirm.
With a sticker, the Test and print QR code button checks the sticker number with Bancontact and shows its QR code. You can print it straight away and stick it next to the till. That way every till gets its own sticker in a few minutes.
Several tills? Do this on every till. You can use the same API token everywhere, but with stickers each till gets its own sticker number.

Step 5: make a test payment
There is no test mode for Bancontact in ServePos. Before the first evening, charge a small real amount (for example €0.50) at every till and pay it with your own phone. Then refund it via Payment management. That way you know every till and sticker is linked correctly, and your volunteers know what they will see.
Step 6: take a Bancontact payment
On the payment screen the volunteer chooses Bancontact. With a QR code on the screen, the customer scans the code on the till. With a sticker, the customer scans the sticker and sees the amount straight away in their app. As soon as the customer has paid, ServePos confirms the payment and closes the tab.
Working the manual way? Then the customer types the amount, shows the confirmation on their phone, and the volunteer taps Confirm with the amount. Check the amount and the club name carefully.
What does it cost?
Through ServePos you pay the same rates as directly at Bancontact. ServePos charges nothing extra on your payments. Bancontact Pro works with a fixed annual fee and a small fixed amount per payment, not a percentage. That makes it cheap for the small amounts of a club bar.

Frequently asked questions
We have one sticker and two tills. Is that a problem?
With The volunteer checks it works, but it is easy to confirm the wrong payment when it is busy. With The till gets a signal we advise against it: two tills would send their amount to the same sticker. Create an extra sticker on the Products page of the Bancontact Pro portal and print it from ServePos, or switch to QR code on the screen.
Can I refund a Bancontact payment?
Yes, via Payment management in ServePos, if the payment was confirmed by the till itself and is less than 30 days old. Bancontact refunds the amount to the customer's account.
Does it work without internet?
Only the manual way (The volunteer checks): the customer's phone does need internet, the till does not. When the till confirms by itself, it needs internet.
Which apps can the customer pay with?
With the Bancontact app and with most Belgian banking apps that can scan a Bancontact QR code.
Does it work on Windows too?
Yes. Bancontact works in ServePos on both Android and Windows.
